Welcome to the Livingston General Plan Update project website.

The City of Livingston is currently in the process of updating its General Plan, a blueprint for the city’s long-term growth and development. The Update will address important community issues such as new growth, traffic, community health, social justice, and environmental protection. In short, the General Plan Update is a pivotal opportunity to shape the future of Livingston.

As this project progresses, this website will be your primary source for information related to the General Plan Update, including an overview of the basics of a general plan to get you oriented to this process, project documents, opportunities to be involved, and meeting dates and times.

Thank you to those who attended the November 18th City Council Meeting on Land Use Alternatives!

As a part of the General Plan update, the City considered different land use alternatives that will shape Livingston’s future. Alternatives function as points of comparison to see how different land use approaches and growth patterns might impact the future of commercial, housing, employment, transportation, and parks and recreation in the city. For this process, we considered three alternatives. Information on the various alternatives and the Land Use Alternatives Report can be found on the Project Documents page of this website.

On Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, the City Council adopted a preferred alternative that incorporates community input, water and farmland sustainability, and modifications recommended by City Planning staff

This final land use alternatives map will become the basis for the City's Land Use map in the General Plan Update. The full meeting agenda is available at www.cityoflivingston.org/meetings.
